Miley’s Travel Tips – Discover, Dream, Explore

Beach, parks, balls, and rolling in the dirt—these are a few of my favourite things. Hi, I’m Miley, and I’m proud to be Aspen Holidays’ favourite ambassador dog! As a seasoned road tripper, I know the disappointment when your human picks a holiday spot with no fun places or things to do for us pups. So, to help you and your humans avoid that mistake, I’ve put together some important tips for making the most of your travels along the beautiful South Coast of Australia.

There’s nothing better than running through the sand, splashing in the waves, and chasing a ball back and forth on the beach. But as every dog knows, it’s all fun and games until it’s time to go home, and Mum and Dad realize just how sandy we’ve become! Most beaches don’t have dog washes, so it’s important to sit nice and still in the back seat (safely harnessed, of course) to avoid spreading sand everywhere. No one likes a grumpy parent, and we all want that good-girl or good-boy treat at the end of the day! Luckily, at Barlings Beach and Tween Waters, you don’t have to worry about car rides with sandy paws—both parks are walking distance from the beach. Less sand in the car means more treats for you!

One of the best things about staying at Aspen Holiday Parks is the warm welcome from the resident dogs, who even send you a “doggy postcard” when you check in. There’s always a good mix of dog-friendly cabins at each park, so there are plenty of accommodation options for Mum or Dad to choose from. And if you’re more of an outdoor pup, camping is always a fun choice! Koala Shores, Tween Waters, and Barlings Beach all offer camping areas where you can stay in a tent or campervan. Just be sure Mum or Dad books ahead, especially around Christmas, when the parks are super busy.

And let’s not forget the BBQ dinners we all look forward to after a long day of exploring. All Aspen Holiday Parks in the South Coast area have BBQs and even pools for the family to cool off in (though sadly, we pups aren’t allowed in). While they swim, I love hanging around the BBQ area, where there’s usually some nice grass to roll on while I wait for a sneaky sausage or steak to come my way!

A few essentials make the trip smoother, too. I always bring my favourite bed and water bowl (I’m a bit picky about where I drink from), and Mum packs my collapsible bowl, which doesn’t take up too much space. That way, there’s room for my toys too! Also, remember to bring a leash just in case, while it’s great to have the freedom of off-leash parks and beaches, a collar with contact details can help with a quick reunion if you happen to wander off.

The South Coast is full of dog-friendly parks and gorgeous beaches, perfect for exploring. Make sure your humans do some planning and research, so you get to visit the best spots. And if you’re ever unsure, the friendly staff at reception are always happy to give tips on the top places to go. Can’t wait to see you around the parks on your next trip!
